Any dog training advice?
i have a 10 week old purebred german shepherd. hes mostly house trained and he does tricks. id just like his manners to be a little better. he bites our hands and face when we pet him. and he's chewing on everything. i know this is known behavior for puppies, but is there anything i can do to stop it?
Guard dog training advice needed?
I want a dog that is a good family dog but can also be protective of my family house. Ive looked into some of the more common guard dog breeds but then a new thought occured to me. We already have a 2 year old male chocolate lab who shows some signs of being protective. He sometimes barks when people knock at the door or enter the house and he barks and growls when people are in the his yard. My question is what are ways that i can encourage these protective type behaviors? I certainly dont' want to create a dangerous dog. But are there safe ways of teaching him some of this stuff without paying a fortune sending him to some protection dog school? thanks for the help
Help! Need dog training advice?
I have two chihuahuas. I recently got a puppy who is so beautiful and sweet, but likes playing rough sometimes. I just got her spayed and ever since she got back, she has been nasty aggressive to my older dog and children.she can't even be in the same room as kids because she snarls at them and refuses to lose sight of them. She bit a vet tech while there and has my first dog terrified of her. I am at a loss as to how to curb this behavior. I have trained all my dogs but never had this problem before. She snarls and snaps when someone even me tries to take her bones or when my first dog even touches her. I will not stand to have my first terrorized. I will get rid of the aggressor first but only as a last resort. I need ideas on how to break her of this bad trait because I don't want to get rid of her. I raised her from two weeks old.
Need dog training advice?
I have 2 older dogs. About 7 years old. Neither of them are potty trained and wondering how to go about training them. They also bark excessively. I won't use shock collars. Those hardly work for other dogs anyway. There's also the territorial issue with the food bowls. Those are the only three problems these dogs have. They are very sweet animals. They just need to be worked with a bit. Anyone have good advice for training?
Worst piece of dog training advice you have been given?
When my current Dobermann b tch was a pup she has the annoying habbit of grabbing trousers legs usually mine & more often that not pinching the skin in the process she was corrected & gave the " game" up I mentioned this to the ex police dog trainer who helped run the obedience club I attended & he advised that I let her carry on uncorrected & she would soon get bored of it

Dog training advice for hyper pooch?
I have a very boistrous dog, she's a bull terrier lab cross and she is quite stocky and strong. She is the kind of dog where you only need to look at her and she starts wagging her tail. I adopted her so I am not 100 % sure of her background or age one vet said she was about 3 and another said she was at least 5 so yeah I guess i may get a 3rd opinion . She is great on walks now, I've had her for about 6 months and she pulled like crazy at the start but with some training I used the start stop method, so every time she pulled i either stopped dead or turned the opposite way . Everything is going good except she is OBSESSED with other dogs. I actually dread walking round the corner and seeing another dog as I know she will go mental. She is not aggressive, all she does is pull and whimper and if she meets another dog face to face she jumps up and down wagging her tail wanting to play. we have socalised her with other dogs since we got her and she's been fine, hyper at first and then calms down but when we meet a dog on a walk it is very difficult to calm her. She has been snapped at by other dogs before as all they see is a big dog trying to run up to them and most don't like it. I don't think she gets really understand when another dog is being defensive or aggressive, she just keeps wagging her tail and trying to run over to them, she nevers barks or growls at other dogs. I just need a little advice or to tell me what else I can do. At the minute when we meet another dog and when she starts pulled I move her around a corner or behind a car and break eye contact. After that i don't move until she has calmed down but this may take a while. When she is calmed down i say good girl and then continue. i have tried using a gentle leader but this is not an option, she will lie on the ground and not move and try to rip it off with her paws. Honestly i have tried everything to get her to keep it on, i have tried showing her toys and food when she starts clawing at it to distract her but in the end she always tries to remove it I had the proper size as well as the first one I got was too small and tight and I took her down to my vets where they sell them and he fitted her with the right one. Also i will not use choke chains as my dog is positively correlated with other dogs and I don't want to make her associate a 'bad feeling' with other dogs as seeing them is the only time she will pull it will be the only time she is badly affected by the choke chain. So yeah does anyone has any advice for me, i would prefer it if it was from people who have been in the same situation but advice from anyone who is experienced in dog training is welcome too, thanks greek god, i know the difference between a prong and a choke chain, BOTH are used as method's to stop pulling so I don't see your reasoning why a prone should be solely used for this habit. i disagree with prongs even more than choke chains as they can cause even more physical damage. You say you are a realist but there are ways to control animals by using positive reinforcement. I am not going to use something on my dog that can physically damage it. Plus I know my dog, a little pain is unlikely to stop her meaning that she will continue to pull causing even more damage. For example I have to hide plastic bottles as she thinks they are toys, for some reason she likes to chew them like crazy, she has ended up cutting her gums but this hasn't stopped her because she enjoys doing it. So if she is completely focused on another dog then she will be less obvious to prongs irritating her neck. Plus the fact that she has a very large neck which has a lot of loose skin on it so
Dog training advice?
I need to start training my puppy to sit and heel. Whenever I try she doesn't let me even start. I looked up on Google how to become the alpha in your dogs life and it told me to make her look into my eyes and stare at them until she looks away or blinks. It also told me to hold her in both of my hands right under her arms and told her no too move. What else can I do? Do you have any advice on walking a dog who pulls me if I go too slow for her? How can I teach her to sit, heel, ect? Her name is Skylar and she is an 11 week old German shepherd. I'm trying to socialize her by letting her meet other dogs and people in the neighborhood. She hardly ever barks. Please help?

Professional Dog training advice only please. What to expect from 1st dog when a new dog arrives?
1st Siberian Husky is 6 yrs old. He's been the only dog for 4 yrs. He's always been great at letting other dogs come over for play dates and sleepovers. Just got a 1 yr old Siberian Husky for his companion. Both males are fixed and are trying to establish dominance. I'd like the oldest to be dominate but I don't think I can control that. Both seem to be alpha personalities. They got along fine at the dog park all summer so the owners gave him to me. Any professional advice? Should I have gotten a female? I know I have to give it more time but will it take lots of time? They don't fight but they are tearing up my backyard with digging and wrestling. Also I separate them at feeding time but one won't let the other eat and when I try to bring the youngest inside to feed the oldest is jealous and acts very stubborn i.e. won't obey commands and acts like he feels he's not loved anymore. I try to show more attention to the oldest to let him know this is still his territory but I don't think I'm not doing things properly. They are playing me by vying for my affection and it's working. Help
